Hysteroscopy means to view the “Hystera” means uterus. It is the process to inspect the inside of uterus. It is the Gold standard for diagnosing lesions of uterine cavity and cervical canal. Hysteroscopy not only accurately define lesions as –polyps, fibroids,foreign bodies, septum of the uterus , missing intrauterine contraceptive device ( IUCD) and adhesions, but also make them amenable for surgery Biopsy – if indicated should be done under direct vision and not blindly.
Hysteroscopy helps in many ways like diagnosing cancer in early stage in postmenopausal bleeding , to find uterine cause in repeated miscarriages, evaluation of uterine cavity prior to IVF etc.
Office – Hysteroscopy is also available , which can be done without anesthesia.
